By The Tree . . .

This is the original painted background of the "colorful" picture below. I made flowers out of different papers and glued them on. Now I think it looks like a real nature lover's mixed media painting. :-)

A Beetle

Wyanne Thompson is teaching us how to paint on "claybord." (That's the correct way to spell it.) We worked on colorful beetles. :-)

Purple Rain

Digital elements by Paula Kesselring. Watercolor background by me.

Oriental Watercolor

I'm very inexperienced using watercolor, but I love the way the background turned out. I made it a simple oriental watercolor to make the background the highlight. It has gold glitter that looks beautiful on it, but the glitter just will not photograph well.

I wonder . . .

It's always fun to use my physical art with digital elements! :-)

Gelli Print Tree

This was "gelli printed," and then I embellished it afterward. I felt like doing a tree after writing the poem in the last post.

Being A Tree

It’s not easy
being a tree.
Bearing the weight
of so many important things.
Snowfall in the winter.
Standing wet in the spring rain.
Spreading shade during
long hot summer months.
Losing parts of ourselves
to the autumn chilly winds.
Always standing tall
as the guardians of mother earth,
giving shelter to her children,
protection to the ground below.
If only you could hear our stories,
those tales written now
and from long ago.
It’s not easy
being a tree.
But a nobler service
there could never be.

Gelli Plate Printing

This is my first attempt with using a gelli plate. I had to touch it up quite a bit, but at least it turned out looking a little steampunk.

Art Poem

You think you’re an artist
more important than me?
You sell your stuff
at champagne shows
and have stamps in every store?
Sorry.
My art isn’t perfect
but it’s straight from the heart.
I haven’t had expensive training
nor do I follow the crowd.
What comes out is what is
and it’s the best I can do.
It feeds my soul so I can go on
and that’s what art
is suppose to do.
