Being A Tree

It’s not easy
being a tree.
Bearing the weight
of so many important things.
Snowfall in the winter.
Standing wet in the spring rain.
Spreading shade during
long hot summer months.
Losing parts of ourselves
to the autumn chilly winds.
Always standing tall
as the guardians of mother earth,
giving shelter to her children,
protection to the ground below.
If only you could hear our stories,
those tales written now
and from long ago.
It’s not easy
being a tree.
But a nobler service
there could never be.

Art Poem

You think you’re an artist
more important than me?
You sell your stuff
at champagne shows
and have stamps in every store?
Sorry.
My art isn’t perfect
but it’s straight from the heart.
I haven’t had expensive training
nor do I follow the crowd.
What comes out is what is
and it’s the best I can do.
It feeds my soul so I can go on
and that’s what art
is suppose to do.

Love Poem

(I'm not any good at writing poetry, but it's fun to keep on trying!)

Midnight Party

tap tap on a window
pitter pat on the floor
the clock struck midnight
but I can’t sleep
with all the noise
outside my door

where did they come from
why are they here
maybe they’re night owls
and there’s no need to fear

now I hear music
and the moving of chairs
I think I hear dancing
and there goes a cheer
from the sound of the giggles
they’ve opened the beer

maybe I’m dreaming
and it’s all a mistake
I’ll scrunch my eyes tightly
till the sun comes awake

then with a feather
someone tickled my nose
and there stood before me
a bird and a mouse.
“come please and join us
we’re having such fun
we’re having a party
right inside your house”

I jumped out of bed
and laughed with delight
for who would believe it
this dark dreary night

Drown No More

I don't know where the inspiration for this weird, short poem I wrote came from, but . . .
